Vintage Porcelain Open Butter Dish - Petite Fruit Pattern by Raintree circa 1984

Vintage Porcelain Open Butter Dish - Petite Fruit Pattern by Raintree circa 1984

{HISTORY}

Strawberries, apples and grapes scattered amongst white and yellow flowers make up this pretty open-faced porcelain butter dish. Made by Raintree in the 1980s, this colorful Petite Fruit botanical pattern came in a variety of serving pieces that were ideal for tea tray presentation.Ā

From mugs to sugar bowls, gravy boats to salt and pepper shakers, and two different styles of butter dish,Ā  this fruit pattern was the type of dishware that gave fresh-bakedĀ  crumpets, homemade jam, clotted cream, and blended butter a little extra pizazz when it came to setting a pretty tray.Ā

The Petite Fruit butter dishes came in two variations - one in rectangular shape with a covered lid and a fruit shaped knob, and the other, this style - open-faced with rounded corners and a scalloped edge. If you like to augment your butter with spices, herbs, honey or flower petals, this open face style shows off your creativity with aplomb without having to fiddle around with a lid. In addition to serving butter, this shape is also ideal for serving goat cheese, pub cheese, or other soft, log-shaped fromage that could benefit from this oblong style that leaves a bit of extra room on the sides to comfortably rest a cheese knife.

Whether you are serving extra butter at the holiday table, a handcrafted soft cheese at your next cocktail party, or simply surprising your spouse with a breakfast tray in bed, this elegant little detail of a dish sets the tone for a delightful experience.Ā
