Vintage Harmony House Floral Platter With Wildflower Design circa 1940s-1960s

Vintage Harmony House Floral Platter With Wildflower Design circa 1940s-1960s

{HISTORY}

In the 1940s, when it came to home decorating, Sears was the place homeowners went when they wanted to build a cohesive interior theme for every room of the house.

Knowing that decorating could be a daunting task for the inexperienced, a time-consuming mission for the busy lifestyler, and an expensive endeavor for the budget conscious, Sears introduced their Harmony House line - a color palette of 18 different shades in light, medium and dark, all meant to coordinate throughout the house with furniture, curtains, rugs, kitchenware, and assorted accessories. Ā

There were solid shades and floral bouquets, all that could be combined with each other, for endless mix and match potential and pretty arrangement.

With dozens of patterns available, there was plenty of inspiration to create a unique interior. This platter features a wildflower bouquet in shades of pink, blue, yellow, and green. Ā The pattern name has yet to be uncovered, but the complementary collage of colors included in this bouquet is a lovely example of how Harmony House helped shoppers design their dream space.

Choose a Harmony House dining room rug in Sage Green, window curtains in Parchment Ivory, and wallpaper in Pacific Blue, and this platter would compliment all three shades and enhance the whole vignette.Ā

A helper for the design-challenged and a springboard of creativity and fun for the home decorator, the Harmony House series ran through the late 1960s. To showcase the complementary palette this platter offers in relation to other vintage dishware of the era, we photographed this one with the 1940s Edwin Knowles Navarre pattern to create a veritable cottage garden full of blooms.Ā

It's fun to think that this platter, a solo traveler through time when we discovered it, might have been part of a big dish set, or it just might have been that one special decorative piece that tied a whole entire room together in color and theme.
