Vintage Arizona Souvenir State Map Tablecloth - 44x50 Size

Vintage Arizona Souvenir State Map Tablecloth - 44x50 Size

{HISTORY}

Oh Arizona! With its sunshine weather, prickly plants, desert landscapes, cowboy culture, and big boulder rock formations, it's a vacation destination unlike any other state in America. Besides being the epicenter of the southwest, Arizona offers lots to see and do in the way of travel experiences. Many noteworthy highlights from the Grand Canyon State are included here on this vintage midcentury souvenir tablecloth. Let's look...Ā

In southern Arizona, there's the Tumacacori Mission and National Park, along with Colossal Cave and Wonderland of the Rocks. Mid-state, there's Phoenix, the state capital, the frontier ghost town of Wickenburg, the artist enclave in Jerome, and the historic town of Prescott with its beautiful town square and main street-style shopping district.

A little higher up, there's the Petrified Forest on the east side of the state, the Roosevelt Dam, and Meteor Crater between Flagstaff and Sanders. At the top end of Arizona, visitors marvel at the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lowell Observatory, and the Hoover Dam. Of course, there are many other attractions to see along the way, but those big highlights are the ones that ignited interest and inspiration in the hearts of travelers during the early to mid-20th century. Adding extra detail to the whole map are the state routes that wind their way from east to west, north to south, showing how to get from one place to another.

A beloved heirloom from a previous traveler, this one has seen a few adventures of its own in the case of a few errant spots. Typically, we do not offer vintage linens with flaws in the shop, but this one is a harder-to-find travel souvenir, and the cloth is still in such great shape it would be a shame to toss it aside just for a few errant marks. Ā Please see the condition section for specific notes on those spots.

Unmarked but most likely made between the 1930s and 1950s for the tourism market, this tablecloth would have been carried home by a visitor smitten with Arizona’s landscape, history, and cultural aesthetic. Fun for framing, sewing projects, or for use as a traditional tablecloth, this one adds instant southwestern style to your decor.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  • Colors include crimson, burgundy, lemon yellow, mint green, and black
  • Extra flourishes surrounding the map include cowboys, kachina dolls, cactus, cowboy boots, and ropeĀ
  • Natural cotton linen fabric

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this tablecloth is all in one piece with no holes, rips, or tears. There are four light stains randomly placed around the tablecloth, so we've reduced the price of this heirloom to account for those. Ā The most noticeable one is directly below the cowboy boots and measures 3/4" of an inch x 3/4" Ā of an inch. The second spot is on the map right above the state capital building in Phoenix and measures 1/4" inch in diameter. The third and fourth spots are on the left-hand side of the cloth across from Yuma in the tree landscape vignette. Each of those spots measures less than 1/8th" inch in diameter. The fifth spot is to the left of the A in Arizona and measures 1/8th" of an inch in diameter.

Due to the overall design of this cloth and the natural cotton linen material, which contains flecks of brown in it, none of these spots are very noticeable except for the largest one by the boots. The colors on this whole cloth are very bright and vibrant, but the black details show a bit of light fading. Please see photos.

{SIZE}

Measures 50" inches (length) x 44" inches (width) and weighs 13 oz.Ā
