Vintage 1950s Embroidered Pot Holder with Hook

{HISTORY}

In the 1950s, when you went to grab a pot off the stove or a dish from the oven, you reached for your favorite hand-embroidered pot holder. The one with the cute little face, the bright blue eyes and the sweetly surprised expression. We can almost hear her saying... "Oh how did it turn out!?" 

Thinly padded with a hanger hook for easy storage and display, this vintage potholder is the size of a Kaiser roll and contains a portrait of a kitchen comrade always ready to help. Beautifully hand-embroidered, this pot holder contains a pretty color combination of embroidery threads that include spring green, ice pink, chocolate brown, royal blue, and coral stitched on soft cotton. 

It's fun to think about how this style of pot holder was the precursor to the gloved mitt that we still know today. But if you are a connoisseur of kitchen cloths, you'll know how awkward a thickly padded pot holder can be. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we favor thinner cloths like this style, for their easier ability to fold and grab things in a more agile manner. This one also makes for a pretty hot pad, table side too - an added dose of whimsy for your dining decor.

{CONDITION}

In good vintage condition, this pot holder has seen a few adventures in the kitchen but overall it's in great shape considering its 70+ years of age. Clean and bright there is not a thread out of place or a stitch gone awry. There is one small light tea-colored spot on the front that is about the size of a dime and two very small areas in back along the seam where the fabric is starting to fray. Both flaws are insignificant in the overall composition of the pot holder and barely noticeable. Please see photos.
