Vintage 1960s Floral Restaurant Ware Creamer - Northern Dogwood White by Shenango circa 1966

Vintage 1960s Floral Restaurant Ware Creamer - Northern Dogwood White by Shenango circa 1966

{HISTORY}

In nature, blooming dogwoods always brighten up the landscape with their cup-like petals and trailing branches. This bouquet is no different. Wrapped around the rim of a vintage 1960s-era restaurant ware creamer, these dogwood blooms are just as light and lively as their out-in-nature counterparts.

Made by Shenango China in 1966, this little server adds a touch of green and white garden charm to the tea tray, the tabletop, and the coffee cart. Featuring a trailing branch of white dogwood flowers accented with pink and yellow, this pattern was part of Shenango's Northern Dogwood White series, a pattern that was made during the 1950s and 1960s.Ā

While we don't know which restaurant specifically this creamer was a part of, we do know it was destined for a bustling dining room because it features the RimRol WelRoc design, a shape that made itĀ  easier to grab and carry for busy waitstaff in busy restaurants.Ā

Perhaps this little beauty was part of a city hotel's courtyard patio set where tea was served amongst the flowers and fountains every day at 4 pm. Or maybe it was a mainstay on a breakfast tray at a popular country inn where little luxuries were the theme of every stay. It could have sat on the counter of a local neighborhood favorite kind of place with a name like The Dogwood Diner and all the theme decor to match.Ā  Or maybe it could have been part of the coffee service in a department store dining room offering shoppers and staff a bit of a respite from a busy shopping day.Ā

That's the fun thing about vintage restaurant ware. It sparks a million possibilities about a million stories.Ā  Where it came from, who it served, what type of eating establishment it belonged to - those are all the daydream questions that arise from a simple glance at a vintage dish.Ā  If you are a collector of such fascinating and fun dishware, you'll find more of this pattern in this lising here.Ā
