Vintage 1950s Petal Lane Platter by Taylor Smith Taylor circa 1959

Vintage 1950s Petal Lane Platter by Taylor Smith Taylor circa 1959

{HISTORY}

Welcome to the wonderfully wispy and whimsical world of 1950s dinnerware. Welcome to Petal Lane.

Colorful, delicate, and singing of spring, this pretty platter was made by Taylor Smith Taylor in 1959 for their Homemaker Set series featuring the Petal Lane pattern.

Homemaker sets were designed for young marrieds, second homeowners, and anyone desiring a second set of dishware for everyday use. Casual, carefree, and containing popular colors of the era, these homemaker sets contained all the pieces necessary (cups, plates, bowls, etc) for a serving of eight. They even came with matching glassware and flatware for a completely cohesive look. Offered at affordable prices, they were ideal starter sets for newlyweds setting up home, for people who liked to entertain a lot, or for anyone outfitting a vacation cabin or cottage.

Made in the Versatile shape, which launched at Taylor Smith Taylor in the 1950s, too, this dish design featured smooth shapes and rimless edges for a more modern, sleeker look. It was a shape that was unlike anything TST had produced before, and represents the pottery's ability to evolve with the times.

With its offset floral design and a platinum rim, this large 13.5" inch platter features the retro color palette of sky blue, cucumber, salmon pink, and slate grey...  all those iconic shades that made the 1950s cheerful and bright. A gorgeous choice for spring and summer tables as well as wall display and tray service, this pretty pattern lends a light and lively atmosphere to any mealtime gathering or sociable soirée.
