Small Antique Homer Laughlin Platter with Gold Trim in the Hudson Shape circa 1908-1928
{HISTORY}
Made between 1908-1928, this petite 11" inch platter was made by Homer Laughlin between 1908-1928. Featuring shimmery gold trim, an embossed edge and a deeply scalloped shape, this platter was part of the Hudson series, the first shape design in H.L.'s history to be in continuous production for more than two decades.
The Hudson series is very fun when it comes to collecting because it came in both simple gold and white motifs as well as decorated florals. Sometimes, they also combined the gold trim with a floral pattern too. We've seen the Hudson pattern in all three arrangements, including a monogrammed set with gold florals and laurel wreaths.Ā So pretty!
Platters during this era came in a wide variety of sizes from 5" inches all the way up to 18" inches, which means the Victorian/Edwardian table was covered in platters for all purposes from serving mini sweet treats all the way up to the biggest of Thanksgiving turkeys.Ā
The king of American potteries, Homer Laughlin has been manufacturing dishware since 1871. We always like to say that they made a pattern for every person, thanks to their prolific output and their innate ability to understand the style and aesthetic that American buyers loved best. This pattern wasn't given one of their fanciful names - instead, it's known only as H-94. That being said, it's made up of a gold scroll design that mirrors ocean waves as they crash against the shore.Ā
We love this platter best for it's go-with-anything gold and white simplicity, and its small size, making it an ideal candidate for sharing between two people, for serving small sides and snacks, and for wall display in petite spaces.Ā
