Antique White & Gold French Porcelain Covered Dish by Tressemanes & Vogt c. 1892-1907

Antique White & Gold French Porcelain Covered Dish by Tressemanes & Vogt c. 1892-1907

{HISTORY}

Made by Tressemanes & Vogt in Limoges, France between 1892-1907, this antique porcelain covered dish features a swirl of gold scallops around the rim and feathery designs on the handles and lid knob.

So pretty for display and service, this elegant dish retains a classic sense of style and complements a wide array of dishware from contemporary to antique.Ā

Tressemanes & Vogt was a French decorating studio and porcelain manufacturer that exported their dishware to the American market via their retail office in New York City. First founded by the Vogt family in the 1840s, Emilie Tressemanes joined as a partner in the late 1880s until he retired in 1907.Ā  The name was then changed to Porcelaine Gustave Vogt, and later the pottery was purchased by Raynaud Porcelain, which is still in business today. Ā Ā

As far as aesthetics go, Ā this one is a beauty and a great representative of elegant French style. A bit of wear around the gold trim on the lid, and two barely noticeable small scuff-style chips on the underside of each handle make this dish slightly flawed, but when it comes to antique dishware, these unique marks of time add character and authenticity that can never be replicated in any modern way.Ā

With its pedestal base, which gives the whole dish a slight lift, we love this antique beauty best for serving and display purposes. It also makes a very pretty shallow table centerpiece vase when filled with fresh cut roses, peonies, or other big-blossomed flowers.Ā

Ā
