Antique Prussia Handpainted Porcelain Bowl with Calla Lilies and Gold Leaves

{HISTORY}

Like two works of art in one, this handpainted porcelain bowl was made in Prussia, possibly at the studio of Erdmann Schlegelmilch or rival (and unrelated) porcelain producer Reinhold Schlegelmilch, sometime around the late 1800s. 

Featuring a bouquet of calla lilies in sandy beach shades and enhanced with delicate gold leaves outlined in black, this bowl is a unique work of decorative art that definitely captures attention. Colors include sand, pale taupe, pale grey, clay, butter, bright white, pale pink, gold, and black against a creamy porcelain background. 

Calla lilies, often chosen for wedding bouquets symbolize faithfulness and purity when it comes to the language of flowers. Oftentimes, thanks to their graceful form they lend high style and elegance to both the garden landscape and special event floral bouquets. In this case, they lend beauty and sophistication to interiors too. Traveling through time in the most gorgeous of ways this bowl is many things - artistic, interesting, eye-catching, and dramatic, but mostly it is just beautiful.

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition, this bowl contains no chips or cracks with the exception of one small chip on the bottom of the bowl near the backstamp.  The gold strip around the rim is fading ever so slightly in some areas but it is not very noticeable due to the dramatic floral bouquet.
