Antique Cotton Rayon Grosgrain Ribbon in Green, Black, Brown & Beige circa 1920s-1930s
{HISTORY}
With their gorgeous neutral color palettes of olive green, deep black, espresso brown, and sandy beige, this antique collection of thick, wide grosgrain ribbon most likely was used in the millinery trade for adding stylish adornments on men's hats during the 1920s-1930s.
A real excitement here In The Vintage Kitchen, it is not often that we see antique textiles come through the shop in their original packaging. These four time travelers of the fashion industry represent a slice of design life that is just marvelous.
Beautiful bands on boater, bowler, and fedora hats of the 1920s-1930s era typically featured wide ribbon in stripes or solids that either crisscrossed, overlapped, or formed a flat bow for off-center-styling just above the brim. A chic part of any guy's wardrobe, hats were the finishing touch of the well-dressed crowd during the first half of the 20th century. See photos included.
Of course this ribbon could have been used for ladies wear too, but these colors are just so indicative of the masculine fashion palette of the early 20th century, we suspect that these four rolls put the icing on the cake when it came to adorning the handsome heads of our grandpas and great grandpas.
Wrapped on their original cardboard rolls, the green, black, and brown ribbons also feature their original paper lining. Most likely made in France for the American market or in the US, each roll contains spool info written in English but the "made in" locations have worn away. Each ribbon is thick and substantial with silky smooth, ribbed texture, a slight drape as the ribbon unravels and a heavy weight.
Sold individually, each ribbon contains a different length and width, so please take notice of all pictures in order to select the appropriate size and shade.
In gorgeous condition, it's not every day you can touch 100-year-old ribbon that has traveled across a century yet still looks almost brand new. Well cared for throughout their 100 years of life, these heirlooms are part of fashion history, but you can also incorporate them into other areas of your space too. Their wide width and neutral color palette lends themselves easily to embellishment on tablecloth, curtain, pillow and table runner edging as well as curtain tie-backs, wreath styling, holiday mantel decorating, and floral bouquet wraps.

{CONDITION}
In lovely antique condition, each ribbon is clean and bright throughout. The green ribbon contains one pinhole prick every 3-4" inches, most likely caused by a straight pin securing the loose end to the roll as it was being cut. These holes are not visible when the ribbon lays flat, but if you hold them up to a light source, you can see the very tiny holes every few inches. The beige ribbon is not rolled with its original paper lining but does contain its original cardboard spool. All the cardboard spools are in great shape with no ripped or weak areas,
