This very, very, very rare YWCA Cook Book, Bangkok 1961 edition is not only a fascinating look at international cookingĀ during the early 1960's but it is also fascinating in the presentation department. Ā
Containing 250 recipes contributed by the United States Overseas Mission Women's Club and compiled by the Bangkok YWCA board of directors, this cookbook was originally intended as a fundraiser for the Bangkok YWCA's day nursery. Beautifully bound with an illustrated cloth cover, it was published in 1961 by Thai Princess Prem Purachatra and this copy is hand-signed by the cookbook's editor with a lovely sentimental inscription to her sister.Ā
The world's first Thai-American cookbook ever produced was published by the Bangkok YWCA in 1952. This 1961 cookbook was theirĀ seventh edition. Incredibly hard-to-find now this is a very special treasure in the Vintage Kitchen.
In addition to recipes written in Thai and English it also contains a bevy of mid-century advertisements (in both English and Thai), special feature sections and illustrations throughout.Ā
