White Antique Water Pitcher by East Liverpool Potteries circa 1901-1907

{HISTORY}

In 1901, six small-scale potteries banded together in East Liverpool, Ohio to form a co-op so that they could compete effectively with some of the larger independent potteries in the area. Working together under the name East Liverpool Potteries Company, they worked for two years together before some of the six broke up and left the co-op to go back to independent manufacturing. As it turned out, joining efforts wasn't the best financial decision for the group. More than half the members left. The remaining two potteries stayed within the collective until 1907, making it a very slim window of pottery production when this large water pitcher was made.

Hefty in size and weight, this pitcher would have initially come with a matching washbasin and served as part of the daily grooming needs of Victorian life. Nowadays, it makes a lovely water jug for the kitchen, a vase for the table or a beautiful decorative piece for your whiteware or ironstone collection.

Around here, we love to incorporate antique pitchers into table displays both indoors and out and also use them as watering cans for patio plants. But really the sky is the limit. They make great holders for so many kitchen things, you won't run out of creative ways to incorporate them into your space.

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition. This pitcher is very clean on the interior and exterior with no staining. There is one small chip on the base of the pitcher that measures 1/2" inch in length. There is also a surface-line stress crack on the inside of the pitcher near the rim and a small crack on the lip of the pitcher. Both measure under 2" inches in length. Please see photos.
