{HISTORY}

A popular sentiment in the 1920s and 1930s and then revived again in the 1970s, Warm Friendship Like The Setting Sun Sheds Kindly Light on Every One has appeared on a variety of different types of needlework throughout the 20th century. Bright and cheerful, this one is executed in cross-stitch with colorful thread and features a couple holding hands underneath an apple tree with a floral border.

Sampler sized at 10.25" inches x 10.25" inches, it's beautifully executed with not a stitch out of place. Colors include turquoise, orange, spring green, light pink, rose pink, teal, grape, chocolate, butter, and marigold all stitched on linen fabric the color of almonds. 

While there isn't one specific person we can attribute to this particular saying, it has been around for quite a bit, appearing in poetry sections and sentiment columns of Victorian-era newspapers as long ago as the 1880s. We just love its sweet spirit and bright color palette - perfect for cozy cottage kitchen decor or linen craft projects.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. All the threads are bright and colorful. The stitching is tight in all areas. There are no rips or holes but there are two small light stains on the left side of the linen in the margin area.  Please see photos.
