Vintage Sheepscot River Pottery Vase with Lady's-slipper Flowers circa 1989

Vintage Sheepscot River Pottery Vase with Lady's-slipper Flowers circa 1989

{HISTORY}

Handmade in the 1980s by artisans at Sheepscot River Pottery in coastal Maine, this vintage porcelain vase features a trio of lady's-slippers, one of the Pine Tree state's cherished native wildflowers.Ā

Heavy and substantial, this vase weighs in at a mighty 3.2 lbs and features a pretty color palette of pale pink, olive green, and pale pine against a bright white background. Pink and green stripes ring the base and the neck for extra flourish.Ā

Family-run since 1974, the artists at Sheepscot River Pottery focus on creating high-quality, durable pieces that are made to last for generations. Art as well as heirloom, all SRP designs focus on patterns that celebrate the natural beauty of their home state.

There are four varieties of Lady's slippers found in Maine. Two of them are rare species. This vase features the most common variety - the pink Lady's-slipper which can alsoĀ  be found in white. Delicate, difficult to cultivate, and slow to grow, they represent nature at its most mercurial.Ā

We just love the delicate color palette of this vase juxtapositioned with its heavy weight. A true beauty for all seasons and all decades, this one, as it its maker intended, will travel far through time blending classic style with regional art.
