Vintage Frankoma Sunflower Yellow Pottery Planter Vase circa 1958-1960
{HISTORY}
Capturing the simple joy of a sunny day, this vintage Frankoma pottery planter vase was made in Sapulpa, Oklahoma between 1958 and 1960.
Frankoma, a combination of John Frank (the pottery owner's name) and Oklahoma (where the pottery was founded), made an interesting array of local clay-based dish and decorative ware beginning in the 1930s. Like many potteries, Frankoma stayed in the family for over five decades, until the 1980s, when it was purchased and resold several times by various companies.
This pottery planter vase, sometimes referred to as a flower pot, is from the #37 mold series, which features a stylish, large scalloped rim. A popular design, it came in many colors, including many different shades of yellow, but we know this one to be the Sunflower shade because it contains tiny specks of brown dots in the glaze.
Ideal for indoor plants or patio decor, these #37's were a lovely size for shelf display and tabletop centerpiece arrangements for plants, cut flowers, and succulent gardens. Glazed on the inside and the outside, this one also makes a handy holder for kitchen items, like flatware, utensils, or cocktail accessories, too.
