{HISTORY}

Conjuring up ideas of lobster bisque or clam chowder this pair of vintage Frankoma soup mugs with their nautical lobster imagery and their bright white glaze carries all the charm of cozy soup season by the sea. Ironically, they were made by Frankoma in the landlocked state of Oklahoma, but that doesn't matter because these two are all about the ocean.

Frankoma, a combination word between John Frank (the pottery owner's name) and Oklahoma (where the pottery was founded) made an interesting array of local clay-based dishware beginning in the 1930's. Like many potteries, Frankoma stayed in the family for over five decades, but then in the 1980's was purchased and resold several times by various companies. Today Frankoma still produces pieces, mostly political mugs, and art pieces. 

These two bowl-shaped mugs are the from the 45C mold which features a thick square handle and large basin. With its fun coastal vibe, it also serves many other purposes beyond soup too of course (cereal, coffee, tea, ice cream, etc), making it a classic year-round worker.
