Vintage Embroidered Floral Tablecloth - 31x31 Square with Cotton Lace Trim

Vintage Embroidered Floral Tablecloth - 31x31 Square with Cotton Lace Trim

{HISTORY}

 Absolutely gorgeous, this vintage embroidered tablecloth features a bouquet full of hand-stitched blooms that would be the envy of any real-life gardener.

Arranged in circular fashion like a wreath, there are violas, peonies, honeysuckle, sweet William, dianthus, passion flowers, and an assortment of other colorful blossoms that trail and float amongst the bees and the dragonflies.

Bordering the entire square is a 1” inch wide ribbon of crocheted lace made of cotton to match the cloth and adding just the right amount of flair to accentuate the flowers. Beautifully executed on all fronts, this tablecloth easily moonlights as a wall hanging, a throw blanket, or a versatile kitchen linen thanks to it’s bright and colorful palette, thick cotton material, and 31 x 31 inch size.

Here In The Vintage Kitchen, we say this about most embroidered linens that come to the shop… it’s a pity that most of them aren’t hand-signed. Not only because of the many hours of work involved but also because of the skill level needed to achieve such a flawless design in such an impeccable manner. This sewer knew all about color harmony, stitch styles, shape, form, and movement.

Most likely made to fit a card table, this linen features shades of magenta, salmon, avocado, mustard, plum, lemon, lavender, burgundy, blueberry, light pink, ivory, and white against a bright white cotton background.

We can imagine that it might have hosted a bridge party, or a ladies luncheon, or a meeting of the garden club at some point in time, but the beauty of this design is that it is truly timeless. It could have slid off the rack at Anthropologie yesterday just as easily as it was removed from the embroidery hoop decades ago.  Flowers are a forever style choice that way. And this one floats effortlessly throughout time thanks to not only its wonderful aesthetic but also the wonderful care it received by a previous collector.
