Vintage Edwin Knowles Grapevine Platter circa 1950s

Vintage Edwin Knowles Grapevine Platter circa 1950s

I have drunken deep of joy, and will taste no other wine tonight. {Percy Bysshe Shelley}

{HISTORY}

With its colorful shades of green and its curly tendrils, this vintage platter made by Edwin Knowles not only adds a useful serving piece to your collection but also it adds a little personality to your kitchen.

We most often think of wine when we think of grapevines, and that in and of itself emulates good cheer, but throughout history, the actual leaves and trunks of grapevines have come to symbolize faith, patience, and prosperity. Faith in nature, patience in the long-time growth it takes to yield flavorful grapes, and prosperity in the bounty of the harvest once it comes. Those are great symbols for the kitchen too as you grow your culinary abilities and your confidence in serving wonderfully prepared foods to your friends and family.

 Made in West Virginia during the 1950s by Edwin Knowles, this platter is a wonderful representation of the pretty patterns the company was known for. Already in business for 50 years by the time this dish was made, Edwin Knowles evolved with the decades but never lost touch with their high-quality construction and engaging designs. This pattern was available in a complete set with all the traditional dishware pieces including plates, cups, bowls, saucers, and ancillary serving pieces. Designed in the coupe shape, it features a rimless edge, that reflects the modern, streamlined aesthetic popular during the 1950s.
