Vintage Cotton Floral Table Runner and Napkins with Silk Embroidery Thread - Three Piece Set

{HISTORY}

It's not every day that a set of table linens comes to the shop that is so beautifully designed it could be considered a work of art worthy of a frame and wall display.  Such is the case with these three pieces.    

Stunning in design and flawless in execution, this vintage embroidered table linen set features a graceful assortment of flowers floating casually around the edges of each piece. Embroidered with silk thread that catches the light in the most shimmery of ways, these flowers carry all the elegant colors of dappled light soirees celebrated during the spring and summer seasons. 

Pastel peach, blue, pink, and bright white make up the floral palette with winding olive green leaves that turn and twist their way from blossom to blossom. Depending on the light, as you can see in the photos included, the colors change, reflecting lights and darks and highlighting specific areas of each flower's unique design. 

Embroidered on crisp, bright white cotton fabric with a hemstitched edge, both the runner and the napkins are the type of cotton that benefits from spray starch and smooth ironing. We didn't use any starch in ironing this set for the photos, so as not to ignite anyone's allergies, but these linens hold their shape very well with minimal care if you are a fan of crisp table linens.   A wedding shower, a bridal party, a milestone anniversary, a garden gathering, or any occasion that calls for a light and lively atmosphere, inspiration abounds when paired with vintage and antique porcelain dishware like the salt cellars and teacups featured in the photos. 

The table runner is sized at 34" inches in length x 16" inches in width - an ideal size for buffet tables, cocktail carts, dessert trays, and farm tables festooned with bud vases and botanicals. Because the thread is very shimmery and adds quite a bit of dimension to each flower, here in the Vintage Kitchen, we think this trio would be the beauty of the ball when paired with champagne flutes, clear summer cocktails, pastel-tinted petit fours, or stacks of Easter-egg colored macaroons. 

Unknown as to maker or time period, its not possible to specifically date these linens given their classic nature and timeless style, but if we had to guess, we'd estimate they were made sometime between the 1950s-1960s. Whichever decade they hail from, we know one thing for certain. They will lend unquestionable beauty to any event in which they are invited.

{CONDITION}

In absolutely gorgeous condition, this set looks practically brand new. There are no sports, stains, pulled threads, holes, rips or tears. The cotton as well as the embroidery thread is very strong and sturdy.

Each napkin measures 13" inches (width) x 12.5" inches (length) and weighs 0.7 oz.
