Vintage Wood Napkins Rings - Set of Six - Scandia by Knobler circa 1970s

Vintage Wood Napkins Rings - Set of Six - Scandia by Knobler circa 1970s

{HISTORY}

This vintage set of wooden napkin rings was made in Taiwan in the 1970s for American giftware importer Alfred Knobler. Part of the Scandia series, each of these rings has its own unique character thanks to the variations in pattern of the all-natural wood grain.

Chunky and rustic yet also very elegant in their simplicity, they look gorgeous with a variety of different types of linens and linen colors depending on your table arrangement. Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we especially love them for outdoor tablescapes and autumn entertaining where nature tends to steal the show as far as design inspiration.

It's no wonder these rings offer endless appeal. Alfred had an excellent eye for artistic home decor pieces that made dining and entertaining a stylish event.  He had a degree in ceramics engineering and worked at Trenton Potteries in New Jersey following college, which helped train his eye towards aesthetically pleasing design. In addition to Knobler, Alfred also owned the Pilgrim Glass Corporation, which specialized in hand-blown glass.  Consistently recognized for his fair business practices, his philanthropic work within his community, and his kindness shown to all his employees, Alfred made quite an impression during his lifetime. Surrounded by things he loved and people he loved doing them with, he was a shining example of how to live a fulfilling life.

Fondly remembered in his New York City neighborhood as Grandpa Alf, these napkin rings represent a special spirit that added joy and beauty to the 20th-century table. Cheers to fifty more years of doing that!
