Vintage 1950's Egg Plate with Chicken Handle - California Pottery - Speckled Pink

Vintage 1950's Egg Plate with Chicken Handle - California Pottery - Speckled Pink

My earliest memory was going to my grandma's house, milking the cows and collecting the eggs from the chickens. Gisele Bundchen

{HISTORY}

Originally the top layer of a two-tiered lazy susan, this vintage egg dish used to sit atop 5 snack trays thatĀ fanned out into one big circle. Altogether it was probably the ultimate accessory for any deviled egg lover - eggs on the top and condiments on the bottom. Maybe the snack trays held different toppings like crumbled bacon or chives or cheese and crackers. Or maybe they held an assortment of other snacks for interesting party fare. Somewhere along the way, the snack trays got lost leaingĀ the prettiest part of the lazy susan in ourĀ opinion - this happy go lucky chckenĀ and her 10-egg compartmentalized dish. This rare piece of California pottery dates to the 1950's and came in at least two color options - pink and turquoise.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Pink speckled base

- Space for 10 eggs

- Attached chicken handleĀ

- Raised feet (pedestal style) underneath each egg cup

{CONDITION}

In gorgeous vintage condition. The chicken contains light crazing. There is a small chip on the underside of the plate (please see photos). Otherwise, in flawless condition.

{SIZE}

Measures 8.5" inches in diameter x 5.75" inches (height).

{STYLE IDEA}

If you are not much of a deviled egg fan, this tray also makes a gorgeous table centerpiece filled with hand-dyed Easter eggs or an egg caddy tote/carrier for your counter or fridge.
