Vintage 1940s Hamilton Beach Drinkmaster Milkshake Machine #30 - Working Condition - Jadeite Green

Vintage 1940s Hamilton Beach Drinkmaster Milkshake Machine #30 - Working Condition - Jadeite Green

{HISTORY}

An ice cream lover's dream machine, this vintage 1940s Hamilton Beach Drinkmaster milkshake mixer comes with a bevy of stories.

First, there's the maker, Hamilton Beach. Invented in 1911, Hamilton Beach manufactured heavy-duty cast-iron milkshake machines for soda fountain shops, drugstore counters, and diners across the country. Originally called the Drink Mixer, it was the first equipment of its kind to market and instantly became a much-utilized machine in the professional kitchen.  In response to an ever-increasing popularity and enjoyment of restaurant dining and the desire to recreate the experience at home, in the 1940s, Hamilton Beach started producing these sweet treat beverage machines for home use, too.

With its sleek look and industrial performance, Hamilton Beach called the home version the Drinkmaster and released it in several color variations including white and jadeite green. Ideal for mixing up milkshakes, frozen yogurt, and smoothies, the Drinkmaster features a 4-fold aeration wand, a heavy cast iron porcelain-coated base and a powerful motor along with two stainless steel mixing cups, making it a true representative of the modern midcentury kitchen in both aesthetic and performance.

This particular Drinkmaster, model number 30 in jadeite green, came from a midwestern kitchen where the love of good food, gracious hospitality, and home entertaining kept it busy for decades. Presented as a wedding gift in 1947, this mixer turned out to be a focal point of joy for an entire family and their friends spanning decades of the 20th century. Remaining in this one family for its entire 80 years of life, it has been passed down through generations. Fond memories and fun history were shared by the original owner's son...

"My parents got this milkshake maker as a wedding gift in 1947.  After the war, there was a flood of home appliances, often imitating professional restaurant equipment.

In the early 1960s, my parents lived on the west side of Akron, in a mid-century house well-equipped for entertaining in the style of Mad Men.  They had an outdoor grill, a pool, and a large screened patio.  My father loved to entertain and through the summer months he would have the gang over often.  Back then, people didn’t worry as much about the ice cream they ate (or how much alcohol they drank!) and the point of entertaining was to give people amazing food. Milkshakes would have been part of that.  The ice cream might have been from Mary Coyle’s in Highland Square, a beloved Akron institution founded in 1937. So many great memories circle around this machine as we watched shakes being made and enjoyed by everyone."

Thanks to its quality craftsmanship and wonderful care, this Drinkmaster is still in working condition and will carry on making delicious drinks for decades more to come. Cheers to a whole new generation of collectors and milkshake aficionados.
