Vintage 1940s Canonsburg Indian Tree Dinner Plates - Set of Two

Vintage 1940s Canonsburg Indian Tree Dinner Plates - Set of Two

The famous seal on Imperial Dinnerware is your assurance of sterling value... (1947 ad campaign for Canonsburg's Indian Tree pattern)

{HISTORY}

Made in the 1940s, this set of two vintage dinner plates features the colorful Indian Tree pattern in the Imperial shape made by Canonsburg Pottery in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.

Pretty in detail, this pattern features a gorgeous array of spring colors that include raspberry, bubblegum pink, pale aqua, teal, blueberry, lime green, and butter yellow set against a creamy white background with a golden edge. Dinner plates like this design featuring florals at the center also around the rim, look gorgeous on tables as both underplates and serving plates making them a fun choice for all sorts of display options.

In business from the early 1900s to the late 1970s, Canonsburg Pottery was family-run during its entire run and was known for its innovative manufacturing techniques. Always staying on top of the latest dishware processes and applications to ensure quality products, they navigated seven decades of tricky business climates through world wars and the Great Depression but eventually filed bankruptcy after competition from foreign markets proved too costly.

Luckily, these plates have survived to showcase the beauty of the Canonsburg brand. With its cheerful color palette and lush bouquets, we can only imagine that this Indian Tree pattern matched the gaiety and fresh air feelings following the post-WWII years.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Matching set of two dinner plates

- Hard to find pattern

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. These plates contain no chips or cracks. The colors and design are crisp, clear and bright on each plate. There is some minor rubbing of the gold rim in some areas (barely noticeable) and a few light utensil marks as expected with age. Also, there is a small dark spot on the rim of one plate - which is actually just a fragment of the floral design that went astray during the manufacturing process.

{SIZE}

Each plate measures 10" inches in diameter and weighs 1.5lbs
