The Gold Cook Book by Louis P. De Gouy - 1970 Edition, 15th Anniversary Printing

The Gold Cook Book by Louis P. De Gouy - 1970 Edition, 15th Anniversary Printing

{HISTORY}

Containing over 1200 pages, The Gold Cook Book contains aĀ vastĀ collection of international recipes, culinary stories and poetry to create one of the most interesting cookbooks of the 20th century. No wonder it was a bestseller for over 40 years.

The magnus opus of well-respected chef, author and editor Louis de Gouy (1875-1947). The Gold Cook Book is a compilation of fascinating kitchen stories, classic recipes, and gourmet cuisine all tailored toward the home cook.Ā  A hotel chef for most of his career, Louis worked in all the cosmopolitan cities - New York, Paris, London as well as the royal courts of Austria and Belgium, where he first began cooking alongside his father, the Esquire of Cuisine to the Austrian Court of Franz Josef, at the age of seven. Further tutelage under the great Auguste Escoffier completed his training.

Originally published in October 1947, just one month before Louis passed away unexpectedly in New York City, this collection of over 2400 recipes had been reprinted 13 additional times before this 1970 15th Anniversary edition debuted. That's a testament to the popularity of the cookbook itself and Louis' approach to gourmet recipe collecting.Ā  With recipes gathered from his own cooking experiences around the globe, that of his friends in the industry (there's a lovely introduction by Oscar of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel) andĀ from history, this cookbook covers a wealth of gastronomical delights for all meals of the day with plenty of helpful tips on how to prepare the simplestĀ of dishes to the most elaborate to ensure success every time.Ā
