The Doubleday Cookbook - Volumes One & Two by Jean Anderson & Elaine Hanna - 1975 Edition
... THE BEST BASIC COOKBOOK I'VE SEEN SINCE THE JOY OF COOKING. IN FACT, I THINK IT IS EASIER TO USE... (PEGGY KATALINICH, MINNEAPOLIS STAR)
{HISTORY}
Originally conceived in 1965, the two-volume set of The Doubleday Cookbook would take an entire ten years to complete before it was ready to hit bookstore shelves.Ā Co-authored by Jean Anderson and Elaine Hanna, editorial colleagues at Ladies Home Journal, the cookbook was an immediate bestseller upon release.Ā
Named Best Basic Cookbook in 1975 as well as the Tastemaker Cookbook-of-the Year, it was praised for its wide variety of thoroughly tested recipes and extensive information pertaining to cooking and kitchen care. Reaching icon status in record time,Ā The Doubleday Cookbook is now considered a classic and has sold over one million copies since it first debuted.Ā
Covering a range of cuisine from homey American favorites and heirloom recipes to exotic cuisines from around the world, this two-volume set also features practical kitchen/cooking/shopping advice, beautiful food photography, and lots of interesting charts, diagrams and situational information. Intended as a primer for any home cook, regardless of experience level, these two books cover all the basics like how to make coffee and chop vegetables to more complicated and exotic meal prep like making (and folding) homemade wontons, sauteeing calf brains and frying frog legs. Reliable, informative and trusted, The Doubleday Cookbook has been helping home cooks put delicious food on the table for over 50 years.Ā
