How to Dance the Rumba by Guy Barry circa 1953 - Rare Dance Book

How to Dance the Rumba by Guy Barry circa 1953 - Rare Dance Book

Dance is the language of the body. Guy Barry

{HISTORY}

Whose ready to dance around the kitchen?!

Here in this 94 page instructional booklet, midcentury New York based dance instructor, Guy Barry teaches readers how to master the fundamental steps of the rumba. Hosting Champagne Sundays at dinner and dancing venues on Long Island, Guy Barry and his studio team entertained patrons with their expressive style. In an era of dinner clubs and dancing date nights, Guy was one of many talented East Coast entertainers teaching Americans the art of moving to the music.

A very hard to find guide, this rare paperback booklet was published in 1953 just as interest in South American culture and cuisine was emerging.

Here in the Vintage Kitchen, we love this book for the refreshing break it offers from YouTube video tutorials and for the gorgeous illustrations peppered throughout. It also offers loads of possibility for a fun dinner night spent among family and friends. Load up the record player, make a long simmering authentic Cuban pot roast and don your favorite dancing shoes for a remarkable night of rumba and romance, Cuban style!
