Antique Round Covered Soap Dish with Handpainted Florals

Antique Round Covered Soap Dish with Handpainted Florals

{HISTORY}

Once part of a chamber set, this antique pink floral soap dish was the elegant vessel responsible for keeping everyone clean and tidy in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Featuring hand-painted florals in shades of pink, green, and brown against a bright white embossed background, this two-piece set outshines a plastic soap holder any day.

Dating to the late 1800s- early 1900s, this little time traveler was originally accompanied by a matching wash pitcher and basin bowl, a slop jar, a chamber pot, a shaving mug and a brush tray to make up a complete grooming set. Small in size but with a wide diameter, this covered dish nowadays is lovely for all sorts of storage needs, both sink-side and in cupboards, pantries, and counter settings.

Unmarked as to maker, we can only guess that it came from either one of two places, England or the US, as both countries produced sanitaryware for the American market. Still the helpful worker it once was, we love this dish as a companion to your kitchen or mud room sink, holding onto your favorite bars of handmade soap. But it's also great for jewelry storage while cleaning up the kitchen, spare change, house keys, and any other bits and bobs that might need corralling around the house.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  •  Two-piece set includes matching bowl and lid
  • Hand-painted
  • Unmarked as to maker
  • Colors include chocolate, emerald, raspberry, and lemon

{CONDITION}

In beautiful antique condition, this covered dish contains no chips or cracks. There is light staining on the bowl's interior, and the gold around the rim of both the lid and bowl is fading in some areas. Light crazing adds another layer of age and history. Please see photos.

{SIZE}

Measures 5.25" inches (diameter) x 3.75" inches (height - base to top of lid) and weighs just a smidge over 1 lb.
